Behind lights, camera and action!
“Pain is temporary, Film is forever” as the saying goes filmmaking is an enriching and enthralling experience in itself. Cinema emote life and gives a canvas to those beautiful human fantasies.
‘Bollywood’ is a home for the dreamers, performers and the achievers. You have a concept in mind and you write it down and start visualizing every single word you have written. The conception of the film has begun. You write and as you continue writing the characters in your story become living breathing individuals. This can be termed as madness but no there is a certain faith that one develops within them. The story is ready and then the journey begins of introducing your characters to the real world. The individual who has written the story and wants to tell his/her story takes the manuscript to a DIRECTOR, who has the technical abilities to execute it. Sometimes the Director is only the writer of the film. He is also referred to as “Captain of the Ship”. If the Director is the writer than its easy to execute the script on screen.
The only motivation within the director is the faith in his script and his technical abilities to execute his dream. He sets on a journey in building an infrastructure to execute his dream. Filmmaking is not a one man show but an army of a visionary commander. The formation of an army is a task in itself. The vision of the film needs to be shared by the others who wish to get associated with the project. When everything is in place then is the real test of patience which begins. The amount of mental stress goes into giving the final touch to every detail is beyond expression. When someone passes a critical comment about your work it feels like someone just pricked you right in the heart. The film just becomes like an emotional aspect of you. You eat, sleep, drink, and breathe your film every single day. To step into the director’s shoes is not an easy thing to do. There is so much to lose without the guarantee of anything in return. Your happiness, family, social life, sleep is at stake as there is no moment to spare to make things work out. There is monetary investment by the PRODUCERS. The Producer is someone with money and power to deprive the director of his sleep.
Yes, creatively on paper you have already sketched a masterpiece is a common feeling shared by every Director but the Producer steps into and sketches the outlines of your canvas. The Producer and Director are constantly in a love-hate relationship. The creative conflict, arguments, discussions, fun and the party continues until the Director finally says “Roll Camera”… The lights come on and finally the director gets transported to his world of storytelling. The story unfolds and travels from the stages of pre-production, production, post-production and takes its own form. At the end of the day everybody associated to the film feels, “Pain is temporary, Film is forever”
