Reel and Real Coffee Conversations

Films are incomplete without the performers (popularly known as actors/actresses) who are role models for the youth. Even a film’s success depends on the star cast of the film. Soon they become stars and the world revolves round them. I am religiously following the new season of Koffee with Karan which is currently being aired on Star World. Firstly, who spells coffee with a K? But never mind. Creative liberty is the most commonly used term in the media today.

I know Koffee with Karan is a chat show and not a film to write about, but still it has all the elements of a commercial Bollywood film. Karan Johar being a film director knows exactly how to get all the emotions out from the guests. The guests are none other than actors and celebrities who try hard to be real and are cautious while answering those tricky questions as one wrong word spoken can lead to millions of speculations and controversies. The last few episodes had celebs like Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Akshay Kumar and few others. The popularity of the show even convinced Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao to have Koffee with K, I mean Karan Johar. So what happens when one sits on the couch in the show? Well Karan Johar tries all his tactics and gets as many promo shots for the episode.

It’s a treat to watch this episodic saga of a celebrity’s life being cunningly directed by the filmmaker host. There is romance when the celebrities are grilled over their current relationship status, tragedy when celebs talk about their personal loss and past relationships, action when the celebs are competing for the huge coffee hamper and the buzzer round, success and failure stories and much more to read between the lines.
I really wonder about how much there is behind the make-up and the lights which mask the real human being who plays so many characters on screen. An actor adorns so many hats in their career that, may be, the real person within loses its identity. They always live a life which is just like a feature film with a camera constantly dictating their actions.

Koffee with Karan’s every season tries to unfold stories of celebrities and lets a sneak peak into their real true self. The only difference between films and Koffee with Karan is that the risk of failure is not there in the latter.  Karan’s show is a blockbuster hit. Also, how can one miss Karan Johar’s dance gig in the title track which is the highlight of the show. With all this excitement who is next on the couch to have Koffee with K?
